Saluting The ANZACS And Thanking God For Rain
Thu, 24 Apr 2008 16:00:10 PDT
Dear Family and Friends in Christ, Yes, it is ANZAC day, once again when we salute our war heroes for the sacrifices they made in protecting our nation. Very often we forget things quite quickly as we live in this fast moving, ever changing time-frame of 2008. But I am sure, if you think back, you will recall that last year as we were approaching ANZAC day, many regions in our Nation were facing a major crisis with severe drought, with bush fires burning and threatening in many places. Jessika at Middle-Raged Punk just sent me this news item about how Yoko Ono is suing the producers of Expelled for using a portion of John Lennon‘s “Imagine” without permission. Premise Media, in their defense, cited the fair use doctrine. This is the quote that got me, though – in which Premise Media described their usage of the song: Unbiased viewers of the film will see that the ‘Imagine’ clip was used as part of a social commentary in the exercise of free speech and freedom of inquiry. Some C-Tran bus fares to increase next Thursday
Thu, 24 Apr 2008 16:02:20 PDT
C-Tran's bus-fare increases, ranging from 5 cents to 10 cents per ride, will begin next Thursday. The increase will affect cash fares, single-ride tickets and monthly passes. For example, the $1.25 single-zone adult fare will become $1.30; the $2.25 all-zone...

Since last week, Miguel Tejada's age jumped to 33 from 31 when he admitted he lied about his age when he was 19 so he could improve his chances of playing big league baseball. But the age change doesn't seem to be affecting him; he's playing like he's a rookie with fire and something to prove. The newest Astro shortstop is punishing the National League with a .360 AVG and 19 RBI and his defense as been quite a pleasant surprise. There's also something else the Dominican native brings to thi

I’ll remember this for when it is McCain vs. the Obamessiah for the general election, and see if WRAL rejects any of the hard left commercials (of course, to be honest, about the only time I turn on any of the networks around here - WRAL is cBS - is when I watch Lost, which is on ABC, of course, so, it will be hard to tell) At least one North Carolina TV station is refusing to air the N.C. Republican Party’s ad about Sen. Barack Obama’s former minister. A spokesman for WRAL-TV in Raleigh said

Voluisa Co. Florida "cat woman" in the news again
Thu, 24 Apr 2008 16:03:44 PDT
In August 2006 I wrote a short story about a Florida woman who was ordered by Volusia County officials to get rid of nearly 170 cats that had been living in her home. It turns out that the 'crazy cat lady,' Kristy Grant, never got rid of those cats. She still has 134 of them living with her in her home, all spayed and neutered and with county tags. She is in the process of building a large fence around her 5 acre property so that her cats cannot escape. In her defense, her home is neat, t
Hobbit & del Toro = pure awesomeness
Thu, 24 Apr 2008 16:03:46 PDT
In a major step forward on “The Hobbit,” Guillermo del Toro has signed on to direct the New Line-MGM tentpole and its sequel. The widely expected announcement came Thursday afternoon jointly from exec producers Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, New Line president Toby Emmerich and Mary Parent, the newly named chief of MGM’s Worldwide Motion Picture Group. Del Toro’s moving to New Zealand for the next four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and WETA production teams. He’ll direct the two

I had to share this amazing post from 3 Minds. The idea in a nutshell: you can get a T-shirt of a CNN headline on CNN.com. It's not T-shirts made to order, it's a choice among pre-determined options. But the options are pretty cool. These are just the first 3, and I'd happily sport any of them in Boston's uber-trendy South End: - Pelosi says 'no' to combined ticket - Sinkhole gulps entire lane of highway - Church steeple is cell tower goldmine I was particularly interested in the potential
